Liposuction/Body Contouring

Liposuction was first performed in 1977 in France and Italy. In the 1980's it became popular in the United States - but the goal of the "old style" liposuction was basically to decrease the amount of fat in a particular area and was done under general anesthesia or I.V. sedation. Late in the 1980's until the present day, local "tumescent": anesthesia became popular with a change of philosophy to contouring the body and not just removing volumes of fat.

Now among the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures, liposuction (also known as "lipoplasty" or "suction lipectomy") sculpts the body by removing undesirable fat from areas around the thighs, knees, buttocks, waist, hips, abdomen, chin, neck and upper arms. Dr. Sobel can permanently remove fat cells in those stubborn pockets during liposuction. This procedure involves injecting large volumes of diluted anesthetic solution under the skin before performing the procedure. The solution not only helps loosen the fat, making the liposuction easier, but it also decreases blood loss and helps replace fluids. Dr. Sobel uses smaller cannulas (instruments) that are from 1-3 mm allow for more precision in contouring and less bruising. The tumescent technique, performed by the newer power assisted cannulas, under LOCAL anesthesia, is the safest way to perform the procedure. Dr. Sobel was one of the first cosmetic dermatologist to perform liposuction under local anesthesia. During the procedure he will stand the patient and remark the areas in order to take out the exact amount of fat.  This technique makes the results symmetrical and decreases the need for retouch surgeries. Why add the risk of I.V. sedation or general anesthesia The patient may go back to work from 1-3 days.

The most common areas are:

FEMALE: neck, jowls, arms, abdomen, bulges in front of and just behind underarms,
waist, flanks, hips, thighs, back (bulges under bra straps), buttocks, inner thighs, calves
and ankles.

MALE: neck, abdomen, flanks (love handles) and chest (pseudogynocomastia).

BOTOX® Cosmetic Treatments

This simple and safe procedure takes only minutes and requires no recovery time. Spider Vein Treatment

Spider veins, or telangiectasias, are small, thin blood vessels visible beneath the skin. They appear most commonly on the face and legs and may look like a series of lines, tree branches, or spider/web like shapes with a dark center. It is estimated that they affect nearly half of adult women in the U.S.

Spider veins are caused by a variety of factors, including heredity, pregnancy, weight gain, long periods of standing, and certain medications. They often appear red or blue, and because they form on the face, thighs, calves and ankles, many patients are bothered by the way they look. Others seek medical treatment for uncomfortable symptoms such as aching, burning, swelling, and cramping.

Jessner's / TCA Peel

This peel combines Tricholoracetic Acid (TCA) with Jessner's solution, which contains several potent exfoliating agents, including resorcinol, salicyclic and lactic acid, which penetrates deeper into skin to clear stubborn acne, scarring, hyper-pigmentation and deeper wrinkling. Patients can expect to peel for five to seven days. Consultation and pre-treatment are required. The strength of the acid will depend on the degree of sun damage, acne or wrinkle lines. The peel can be superficial or deep and the skin will look refreshed and years younger. Treatments are performed by Dr. Howard Sobel.
