What areas can be treated with liposuction?
Liposuction is used to eliminate stubborn fat in many areas of the body. Commonly treated areas include:
- Upper arms
Who can benefit from liposuction?
Liposuction is not designed to help patients lose weight. Instead it is designed to treat stubborn pockets of fat that don’t respond well to diet or exercise. For best results, patients should be at a healthy, stable weight. While liposuction cannot help you lose weight, it can help you look slimmer.
How does liposuction work?
At Park Avenue Skin and Spa the procedure starts with an injection of a solution that contains saline, anesthetic, and adrenaline. This prevents pain and bruising.
One of two techniques will be used: Suction-Assisted Lipectomy (SAL) or Ultrasonic-Assisted Lipectomy (UAL).
In either case, a very small incision will be made. The incision is so small that it doesn’t need to be closed with stitches. Next, if the SAL technique is being used, a small tube will be inserted underneath the skin and the fat layer will be broken up and suctioned out. If the UAL technique is being used, ultrasonic energy will be used to liquefy the fat and then it will be suctioned out with a small tube. The procedure will take anywhere from 1-4 hours depending on the areas being treated.
What kind of results can you expect?
One of the benefits of liposuction is that you will see immediate results. You may be sore for a few days following the procedure, but the side effects are quite mild and can be easily managed with over-the counter pain medication. Most patients can return to normal activities the day after the procedure.
Another benefit of the procedure is that the results are permanent. The fat cells are removed from your body. If you maintain a healthy lifestyle and weight, you can have lasting results.
