What is Botox?
Botox performed by NYC Cosmetic Dermatologist, Dr. Sobel, is a simple and safe procedure that takes only a few minutes and requires no recovery time. Used safely in medicine for decades, Botox has revolutionized cosmetic dermatology by effectively reversing the visible signs of aging by injecting minute amounts of botulinum toxin into selective groups of muscles. Its made from a highly purified protein that is very safe when administered by a trained physician.
Botox gives you a rejuvenated look by smoothing crow’s feet beneath the eyes, frown lines between the eyebrows, horizontal lines across the forehead, worry lines around the mouth, and lines on the neck.
Common areas treated
- Crows feet
- Lip lines
- Bunny lines on the nose
- Corners of the mouth
- It is also possible to lift the eyebrows with Botox
How to prepare for Botox
It is important to stop taking any alcohol, ibuprofen, aspirin, fish oil or vitamin E one week before the procedure. If you are preparing for a big event it is best to get Botox 1-2 weeks before the event to ensure proper healing of the area treated.
What to expect during Botox treatment
Using a micro-sized needle, Botox is injected into certain muscles of the face and neck to relax them and lessen the appearance of wrinkles that result from our daily expression, such as crows feet, lines between the eyes, the horizontal lines across the forehead, to raise the corners of the mouth, decrease lines around upper and lower lips and decrease the bands on the neck. Tiny needles are used so there is virtually no bruising so no one will know a procedure has been performed.
The medication relaxes the muscles in the face that cause wrinkles. In this way, Botox smoothes the lines in the skin that make you look tired or angry.

The most common side effects include:
Rare side effects include:
- Ptosis, which is an eyelid droop.

- Lowered eyebrows
How long does Botox last?
The results can be seen within four to five days and last three to six months with no downtime or surgery and little to no discomfort.
Recovery after treatment
It is important to not lie down for a one hour after the Botox injections because you do not want the Botox to migrate into another muscle group. Do not rub or massage the area where the Botox was injected. You can exercise one hour after treatment and resume your normal activities immediately.
Botox before and after
Dr. Sobel is excellent with botox and fillers. I would not go anywhere else. I have referred my sister to him and she had a similarly good experience. He is extremely capable, very courteous and a pleasure to see. There are occasions when you will have to wait for him but he is well worth it. – N.D.

Why choose NYC Dermatologist Dr. Howard Sobel
Even though Botox is not a surgical procedure, it is very important to choose a highly experienced and qualified physician when deciding to undergo treatments. Doctors who are less familiar with the technique could leave you looking “frozen” or perpetually surprised.
Dr. Sobel is intimately familiar with Botox Cosmetic, having successfully treated hundreds of patients at our office. Not only that, he also takes the time to talk with each candidate before beginning the injections to find out what he or she wants to achieve and to determine how best to correct the problem area(s) so patients can be happy again with their smoother, younger-looking faces.
