Spring is in the air! Can you feel it? Even those who truly enjoy the cooler times of the year tend to look forward to Spring, with all of its freshness and new life. It is at this time of year when your skin may be most in need of refreshing, too, and we are here to help you make the transition in the most beautiful way. Here, we will touch on 3 important aspects of your skin care routine.
We cannot talk about moisturizing enough! Moisturizing your skin with the appropriate products for the given time of year is as important as using sunscreen on a daily basis. Skin cells rely on water content, so one of the biggest suggestions we can make for plump, healthy skin is to hydrate throughout the day. Secondary to that, you want to apply a quality moisturizer. During the Spring and Summer months, the products you use need to be lighter and brighter. They should contain emollients, but gentler ones, like vitamin E. They also need to have a hydroxy acid or another ingredient that fights free radicals and promotes exfoliation.
Speaking of Exfoliation . . .
During the colder months of the year, or anytime, really, the cells that should be sloughed off of the surface may hang on for dear life (even though there is no life in them!). This is unacceptable for two reasons. One is that dead skin cells have no luster, no luminosity. They will dull your complexion and steal your radiance. Secondly, the surface of your skin needs to be unobstructed for your skin care products to do their job. Release dead, damaged cells with a gentle exfoliating treatment in our NYC cosmetic dermatology office.
It’s that time of year when we start hearing more about sunscreen, although the use of a protective product is necessary all throughout the year. As we move toward summer, it’s a good time to start thinking about the right product. Broad spectrum is a more important term than SPF (30 will do for most people). We are happy to speak with you about recommended sun care products during your next visit.
